Dayton Daily News Field Trip Snapshots

Today the middle school DCSS Homeschool students and parents had the opportunity to tour the Dayton Daily News Printing facility.  We all were fascinated to see row after row of rolls of paper and tons of huge machinery.  By a rolll of paper we mean almost the height of a person weighing about 1700 pounds per roll!  We saw tubs of ink, printing machines, plate making, and the presses.  We heard many stats about how much ink they use each month and how much paper is recycled due to start up of the press before a “clean” copy is complete.  What a wonderful learning opportunity.  The very end of the tour concluded with a copy “hot of the press” of the Sunday comics.  Yes a copy of the comics that have not yet been published!
