XC High School Homeschool Families

A Note for XC High School Homeschool Families:  This event will change the schedule of the XC day, please review the changes here – Spiritual Emphasis Day Schedule

Dear Parents,

As we have been advertising for the last couple of weeks, on November 6 we are having a special Spiritual Emphasis Day on our campus featuring a team from a group called AXIS.  Our entire XC faculty was first introduced to AXIS during last year’s ACSI professional development conference in Columbus.  Following their presentation on social media called “7 Hours and 38 Minutes Per Day” (the time that the average student consumes media every day), my first thought was, “How can we get them to come to XC… this would be so good for our students and parents!”  My second thought was… we could never afford them! 🙂

For the past 4 years I have had the privilege of taking our high school students involved in Student Senate and other leadership roles to an ACSI Student Leadership Event at Cedarville University.  This year we discovered that AXIS was going to present at this conference… my thought was why just take 20 students to see them (at a cost of $50/person) when I might be able to arrange for them to come to our campus and present to all of our high school students!  We asked, and they agreed!  But wait… there’s more!  They are also doing a Faculty In-Service AND an evening Parent Session!  We thought we had scored a single… but we ended up getting a TRIPLE!

The Mission of AXIS is Lifelong Faith.

“We empower the next generation to think clearly and critically about what they believe and to take ownership of a lifelong faith. We do this not by outsourcing parents but by resourcing parents to disciple and transfer legacy to their children as they face life’s questions and challenges.

We also support faith leaders in churches and schools by providing content and facilitators that effectively introduce and address life’s toughest topics.”

AXIS is coming to talk with our XC family about Pop Culture.  Their three sessions during the day are titled:

  • Facebook Love Affair
  • How to Read the Bible Like the Devil
  • We are What We Love

The AXIS presentation is geared for 9th-12th graders; however, for the first session the 7th and 8th graders will be attending and then they will be having special sessions in the gym and chambers led by Mr. Holloway.  The class/session schedule (which is CRAZY!) is attached.  We are extending a special invitation to our 7th-12th grade homeschool students to come and be with us the entire day!

Because your role as a parent is critical in this discussion of pop culture, AXIS is offering a free e-book to you titled, “How To Talk To Your Kids About Pop Culture”.  You can go to axis.org/freebook and download it for free!  In addition following are links to a set of short videos (5-12 minutes or so in length) that go hand in hand with the e-book briefly discussing how to walk through some of these issues with your students:

Video 1 – Topic: Overview of Axis and upcoming videos

Video 2 – Topic: Challenges and Strategies for the next generation

Video 3 – Topic: Technology and it’s challenges for your students

Video 4 – Topic: Media influencing your students

Video 5 – Topic: How Axis can help

I invite you to be engaged in the discussion – be enthusiastic about the day – check out the resources – come to the parent meeting @ 7 p.m. on the 6th.

If you need more information, just let me know.

Thanks for your continued partnership with us!
