The Homeschool Office will be closed on Monday, August 21 and will re-open on Tuesday at 8 am. Have a great weekend!
This is a reminder that Dayton Christian School will be closed on Monday, August 21 due to the solar eclipse . All evening events will still take place. Please note the following:
- The boys varsity golf, girls varsity soccer, and girls volleyball teams will play at their scheduled times.
- Practices for all athletic teams will take place after 4pm. Watch for a notification from your coach to determine exactly what time.
If you plan to watch the eclipse with your family, please take precautions to protect your vision as you do so. Below is a link to NASA’s webpage on how to safely view the solar eclipse.
Have a blessed weekend and may this extraordinary event help to recall what an amazing God we worship!

Dear DC Homeschool Parents,
I have had a few questions about plans for 2017-2018 EXCEL and wanted to answer some of the most frequently asked ones.
Will the schedule of EXCEL be changed in any way? The schedule will still be from 9:30 to 2:30 and the format will be the same with Assembly in the Auditorium in Building A, 4 classes, lunch, recess, homeroom and dismissal, which will also occur from the Auditorium. Families will enter through either the B (Athletic door) or A (A building) doors and proceed to the Auditorium for Morning Assembly. Parents and students will not need to sign in for EXCEL drop off or pick up.
Will Homeschool classes be together in the building or will they be spread out? The majority of the classes will be on or near the B-2 hallway close to the Homeschool Office and Library. Little Sibs and Kindergarten will be in the D building in carpeted rooms with close access to the playgrounds and bathrooms.
Is there a dress code? To readily identify all DC students for safety and security purposes, Homeschool students will to comply with DC’s Friday dress code* which is khaki or navy shorts or pants for boys and pants, shorts, skorts, jumpers for girls and DC spirit wear which includes DC Homeschool or DC t-shirts. DC Homeschool students will be provided complimentary t-shirts which can be worn every EXCEL day. These t-shirts will be available for pick-up at the parent meeting. Additional t-shirts can be purchased from either the DC spirit store or Homeschool t-shirt provider, or students may wear plain polos with or without the DC logo. *Please See DC Connect for the full Dress Code Policy: DC Connect> Resources>Forms and Helpful Information> Handbooks
Will Homeschool students have to wear uniforms on Picture Day, Oct. 6? NO! Your children can wear their picture-best or their uniform.
Are the teachers exclusively for EXCEL or are they shared with Dayton Christian?
EXCEL teachers are hired according to DC policies for hiring teachers and paid to teach the classes. EXCEL Teachers, many returning from last year, are hired specifically for EXCEL and are not DC faculty members. In addition, no EXCEL classes will be combined with on-campus classes. The only potentially shared space will be the playground at recess time. Homeschool students will not eat in the DC Cafeteria and will still have the Chick-Fil-A lunch option.
Why was the move from Patterson Park necessary?
The move from Patterson Park was two-fold. First, to bring the whole DC family under one roof to build community and connection. Secondly, to be good stewards of resources. With the reallocation of spaces at DC, it became apparent that EXCEL could be held on campus and maximize the space we already have. In addition, EXCEL teachers are very excited about having classroom space to personalize for DC Homeschool students and leave set up between classes. While we have enjoyed partnering with Patterson Park and will miss the staff there, it is ultimately in the best interest of DC Homeschool to be in its own space.
Please feel free to email me any additional questions you may have and I will be sure they’re answered at the Back to (home)school Night on August 31 at 6:30.
